Ecology notes for visitors:

Lake Conjola, in the Shoalhaven, is special!  It remains a relatively pristine, unspoiled natural area.  Such places, close to metropolitan and settled regional areas, are becoming ever more rare.

The beach and estuary contain fragile ecosystems, providing habitat for shorebirds such as godwits, oystercatchers, plovers, terns and swans.

Each summer sees the arrival of international visitor flocks from the northern hemisphere, as the Lake Conjola area is a stepping-stone within a bird migration pathway called the the 'East Asian-Australasian Flyway'. Our little travellers include such as: the Little Tern, Bar-tailed Godwit, Ruddy Turnstone, Eastern Curlew, Whimbrel and Red-necked Stint.

Clean coasts and clean seas ensure the increase of our wildlife population and the preservation of natural areas, so please follow the advisory signs erected by local and state government about protecting the area.  The fact that Lake Conjola is somewhat off the beaten track has been to its advantage in preserving its natural environment.  Activities to enjoy include: walking, bird watching, swimming, picnics, fishing and canoeing.

Please tread lightly. Bring binoculars, leave nothing but footprints and take nothing but photos!

On the drive into Lake Conjola, off the Princes Highway, you'll notice a road-side sign 'Conjola National Park'.  For notes on the national park click here
